Transparent animated stickers: GIF vs WebP
Learn how GIF and animated WebP transparency differ in StickersMaker downloads. Compare the existing original files, then check the file you want to use.

Can animated stickers have transparent backgrounds?
Yes. Animated stickers can preserve transparent regions when their format supports transparency. GIF supports fully transparent pixels, while animated WebP supports partial alpha for softer edges. Check the original file: a preview canvas or importer may display it differently.
AI demo photos and curated results, not customer testimonials. Likeness, motion and cutout edges can vary.

GIF
GIF uses on-or-off transparency. An edge cannot keep the same partial transparency as WebP. The WeChat download is a 240×240 GIF.
GIF ↓WebP
Animated WebP supports partial alpha transparency. WhatsApp creations include a 512×512 animated WebP, plus a 240×240 GIF for animation sharing.
WEBP ↓Check the original, not a screenshot
View the original animation on light and dark backgrounds. A viewer may paint a background; a screenshot or conversion may lose animation or transparency. A checkerboard is a viewing aid, not proof of file transparency.
What we checked in these examples
The checked downloadable GIF and WebP samples contain transparent regions in every frame, with 20 frames over 3 seconds. WebP samples retain partial transparency; GIF samples use binary transparency. These checks do not guarantee every generated result or phone import workflow.
Choose the platform workflow separately
A transparent file is not a one-click import. Use the platform help for pack requirements, original-file checks and import troubleshooting; mobile workflows have not yet been verified.
